Courtois believes it is time keepers started winning awards

Having helped Chelsea to the top of the Premier League and recently being nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award, Courtois believes it is about time that Goalkeepers started getting the recognition they deserve at the end of season awards.

Asked about his chances of winning the award, Courtois said:

“Hopefully one day it can change that the player of the year awards – not only in England but also everywhere in the world – can be won by a goalkeeper, too.”

“I think that still has to improve. But also when people vote I think they will always vote for a player first and the second one is a goalkeeper.”

“That’s why always a player will win.”

With Neuer missing out in this years Ballon d’Or to Ronaldo and Messi despite winning the World Cup and being in sensational form it raised a lot of eyebrows about what a Goalkeeper would have to do to win the top awards.

As well as Chelsea’s Courtois, Manchester United’s David De Gea who has had a lot of praise this season was also nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year Award and the PFA Player of the Year Award.

Do you think that we will see De Gea or Courtois take home either award?
