FAWSL team Birmingham City Women have announced the signing of goalkeeper Alex Brooks
Despite the FAWSL transfer deadline closing on Thursday night, Birmingham City Women have kept one deal up their sleeves until the weekend. With the FAWSL club announcing the signing of 24 year old ex Manchester City goalkeeper Alex Brooks.
The former England under 18 captain has been on a bit of a journey since leaving Manchester City with whom she had played for since the age of 8.
Originally going out on loan to Everton at the start of the 2016 WSL season before joining the ambitious project at Fylde Ladies in 2017.
Alex then joined Blackburn Rovers playing 4 games at the start of the season and keeping 4 consecutive clean sheets before signing dual forms for Sheffield United as she made her way back up the footballing pyramid.
With the move to Birmingham City she now will line up once again in the premier competition within England’s female game the FAWSL.
The move to the blues was made possible following the departure of previous Birmingham City keeperĀ Ann-Katrin Berger to FAWSL rivals Chelsea and will see Alex compete with Hannah Hampton for the number 1 jersey.
Birmingham City, who currently lay 4th in the FAWSL table – 6 points behind Brooks’ old club Manchester City will restart their campaign this afternoon at 2pm against Chelsea and it will be interesting to see if either Brooks or Berger are given the nod to start in today’s match.
One things for sure though, its great to see Alex back in the FAWSL where many people believe the youngster belongs!
