Ederson Moraes on the verge of joining Manchester City

The carousel of changes within the Manchester City goalkeeping department continues to turn, with the latest announcement set to be the signing of Benfica goalkeeper Ederson Moraes for a reported £33 million.

There had  been rumours that Pep was keen on the 23-year-old Brazilian, and on Tuesday morning Ederson was spotted in Manchester having a medical. Later that day he teased his Instagram fans by posting a picture which is believed to be at Manchester City – which he quickly deleted.

Ederson who only broke into the Benfica 1st team in March last year – playing 37 games for the Portuguese champions was quoted as having said that he had probably made his final appearance for the club.

As well as only just breaking into the Benfica team, Ederson is yet to play for the Brazilian senior squad, having made only a handful of appearances for Brazil’s u23s.

Whilst he has many admirers throughout the globe following his recent performances, he is still a very young and inexperienced goalkeeper to some such as ex Man City stopper Shay Given who labelled the move risky, particularly given the fee being discussed.

After all, £33million puts him close to the record fee for a goalkeeper – depending on how you translate your currency!

All of this activity comes just days after Manchester City announced that they were releasing their long standing Argentine number 2 Willy Caballero and Joe Hart announced the end of his loan spell with Torino.

Hart has also come out and stated that he feels his time with Manchester City is over and expects to move on within the summer.

This leaves Manchester City with only one senior goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo – who came under a lot of criticism for his performances last season, breaking all kinds of records no goalkeeper wants to hold as well as highly rated youngster Angus Gunn.

Keep a close eye on what is going on at City, we’ve got a feeling that there is more movements in the goalkeeping department yet to come!

What do you think of the move? Great bit of business to tighten up Man City’s key weakness in the goalkeeping department? Huge risk? Crazy decision? Let us know in the comments or on social media!
