Rachel Brown-Finnis Retires

Everton Ladies goalkeeper Rachel Brown-Finnis has today announced her retirement from football with immediate effect.

The 34 year old keeper who is one of the best known goalkeepers in the Women’s game has previously represented England at two World Cups as well as Team-GB at the 2012 Olympics.

Brown-Finnis has decided to call time on her career due to medical reasons:

Brown-Finnis said: “It was a tough decision. To be honest, it is something that I have been considering over the past 18 months or so and it is simply down to the amount of pain I suffer with my knee and back over the course of a season.

“It’s down to whether I can continue to withstand that pain after every training session.

“It is emotional for me but I think now is the right time.”

Whilst Rachel will no longer represent Everton on the field, she will remain with the Blues as the club’s first ever Ladies ambassador.
