Brad Friedel set to Retire as Premier League Record Holder

After announcing his retirement at the end of the 2014/15 Premier League season Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has been given a huge hint from manager Mauricio Pochettino that he could be set to retire as the oldest player to appear in the Premier League.

Pochettino heaped praise on the American shot stopper earlier today “It’s a real pleasure to work with him and to know him because he’s a top man, a top professional and it was fantastic to spend time with him this season.”
“It’s not easy at 44, but all his career he was very professional, he was one of the best keepers in England.” he said.

The suggestion is that as long as Tottenham have secured their Europa League place by the time they face Everton on the 24th of May – 6 days after Friedel’s 44th birthday – Pochettino will give Friedel the chance to surpass the previous record holder John Burridge who played aged 43 and 162 days.

One thing is for sure, whether Friedel breaks the record or not, he will be fondly remembered as one of the most dedicated goalkeepers in the game and sorely missed throughout the goalkeeping world for his performances as well as his personality!
